Village Elections 2012: Candidates Needed for Board of Directors
Elections for seats on the Columbia Village Boards and the Columbia Council will be held Columbia-wide on Saturday, April 21. This year there are four (4) open seats on the River Hill Village Board of Directors. Each position has a two year term that runs May 1, 2012 – April 30, 2014. Note, this represents a change from what was published in last month’s newsletter. The Board has increased its size to seven (7) members.
Residents interested in being candidates for the Village Board must submit a nomination petition signed by ten (10) River Hill residents age eighteen and older. A candidate statement and photo must also be submitted. The nomination period is from March 1 – March 21. For convenience, you can download a Nomination Petition here. Candidate statements will appear in the April issue of The Villager and the Columbia Flier election supplement.
The Village Board is responsible for overseeing the operation of the River Hill Community Association, Inc. of which all Village of River Hill residents ages 18 and older are members. The Board works closely with the Columbia Association to provide services to village residents and coordinates with County and State officials to advocate on behalf of residents. The River Hill Village Board typically meets the first and third Monday of each month at 7 p.m. in Claret Hall. Village Board meetings are open to the public. Residents interested in running for these positions are encouraged to attend an upcoming meeting to learn more about the responsibilities and current issues of importance to the community.
Candidate information packets that explain the election process and provide background information are available at Claret Hall. Residents are also encouraged to contact the current Board Members and Village Manager to find out more about the responsibilities.
