School Redistricting May Impact Village

On August 23, 2017, during a special meeting of the River Hill Board of Directors, a vote to sponsor a community forum on the proposed school redistricting in Howard County resulted in unanimous approval by the members in attendance. This decision means that the Association will provide space for residents to discuss redistricting and help communicate with the Board of Education.
The Association reached out to representatives from the Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) and invited their participation at the planned forum. The response received from HCPSS on August 25 indicated that they do not plan to send a representative to the forum. Instead, it was recommended that it would be best if residents “attend the regional meetings that will occur on September 12 and 13. The meetings will be in part to inform residents of the process, where we (HCPSS) are in that process and how residents still have time to participate. We (HCPSS) are reviewing options on which methods are best for collecting feedback during the Superintendent’s step in the process.”
Currently, the Association plans to hold a community forum, for residents of the Village of River Hill only, to discuss the proposed school redistricting and formulate a plan to provide feedback to HCPSS on Friday, September 8, 2017, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Claret Hall. Those interested in attending must pre-register by 9 p.m. on Thursday, September 7, 2017, due to limited seating at Claret Hall. Call 410-531-1749 or send an email to newsletter@villageofriverhill.org and provide your property address when registering. Identification will also need to be provided as proof of residence to gain entry to the forum on Sept. 8, 2017.
As of the deadline for this issue, an agenda for the forum had not yet been determined. Stay tuned for additional updates via the Association’s various modes of communication such as the River Hill Community Association website, Facebook: River Hill Community Association/Claret Hall, Twitter: @RHCAClarksville, and email distribution from Constant Contact. To sign up for these emails, text ClaretHall to 22828. Updates will be posted on each once an agenda has been finalized.
