River Hill Resident Raises Funds for Puppy Rescue Mission
She’s saving lives, one book at a time. Nineteen-year River Hill resident, author, and animal lover Marla Stahl has a unique way of assisting with animal rescue: In addition to adopting rescue dogs of her own, she donates a portion of her proceeds from her children’s book, Can Sugar Come Out to Play, to various animal rescue organizations. Each month she features a different group, and donates $2 for every book sold on-line during the month to that group. She also attends local events to support local rescue organizations, and donates a portion of the proceeds from that day to the group she is supporting. Ms. Stahl has supported animal rescue and animal welfare organizations here in Maryland, as well as in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Puerto Rico.
In September, her featured on-line organization will be the Puppy Rescue Mission, which brings dogs back to the States from military bases in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other foreign countries where US soldiers are deployed. These dogs and puppies, once strays, are “adopted” on base by the troops while overseas, bringing much love and normalcy to the troops, while at the same time providing a safe haven for the dogs. Amazing bonds are forged, but when the troops return home, these much-loved four-legged friends get left behind. The Puppy Rescue Mission works to bring home these wonderful dogs and unites them with “their” special soldiers. The joy that ensues is so heartwarming, for both the dogs and for their adopted “moms and dads”!
Also in September, Ms. Stahl will have a table at the Animal Advocates of Howard County’s annual event, Walk for Paws, on September 20th at Lake Elkhorn. Come on out to say hello and have a copy of her book autographed and “paw-tographed”!
