Getting Involved During Your Golden Years
The River Hill Community Association is seeking a River Hill resident to serve a two-year term as the village’s representative on the Columbia Association’s (CA) Senior Advisory Committee. The goal of this committee is to advise CA on the needs, interests and concerns of Columbia’s senior residents. Nominees must have demonstrated interest in the senior population, be at least 55 years of age and be knowledgeable of senior programs and services in Howard County. The representative will be responsible for providing updates to the Village Board and assisting in the communication of pertinent information to the community. Letters of interest should be mailed to the River Hill Village Board, 6020 Daybreak Circle, Clarksville, MD 21029, Attn: Susan Smith; or emailed to manager@villageofriverhill.org and must be received by January 5.
Over the last few years, River Hill has seen its 55+ population grow with the building of the condominiums and townhomes near the Village Center. River Hill also has many residents that have parents living with them under one roof. For these reasons, the Association is making an effort to reach out to this ever growing population in River Hill. In the beginning of 2012, a couple of programs geared to this segment have been planned. On January 17 at 7 p.m., there will be a first meeting for a group that is forming to serve the 50+ population. The first meeting invites residents to come to Claret Hall with a picture in hand. Each resident may get up and tell about the picture and themselves. What better way to get to know each other! Light refreshments will also be offered. The hope for this newly forming group is to begin meeting on a monthly basis to make new friendships and learn about each other and informative topics. A second event geared for the 55+ population will be offered at Claret Hall on January 29 at 3:00 p.m. Girl Scout troops will come together to offer a singing event for the residents. Please come out to have enjoyable afternoon with music and visiting with the younger River Hill generation. Please be sure to look for the advertisements for these events in the January Villager.
