Cul-de-sac Parking Complaints

The association periodically receives complaints regarding cul- de-sac parking violations. School buses, emergency vehicles, and residents are having difficulty safely navigating around the center island due to illegally parked vehicles.

There are strict County codes for parking on cul-de-sacs. According to Section 21.221 of Howard County Code, an individual may not stop, stand or park a vehicle adjacent to the center island of a cul-de-sac. Additionally, you may not park in front of or within five feet of a public driveway, or within a private driveway, without the consent of the owner or occupant of the premises; or on a sidewalk or pathway.

If these situations are occurring on your street, it’s a danger! Blocking the ingress and egress of emergency vehicles could result in a tragedy if you or a neighbor needs services. Parking in this manner makes it difficult for school buses and large commercial vehicles to get through. It also makes it hard for neighbors to back out of their driveways safely.

Please remind your family members, guests, and contractors not to park around the cul-de-sac island. Planning an event at your home and expecting a crowd? Consider asking guests to carpool or have them park at the Village Center and offer to shuttle them to your home. We encourage you to speak to your neighbors and let them know you’ll be having guests. Perhaps they won’t mind letting someone park in their driveway.

To report cul-de-sac parking violations, call the police non-emergency number at 410-313-2200.
