Meeting Minutes

August 23, 2017

Opening (Agenda 1):

Richard Thomas, Board Chairperson, called the Board meeting to order at 7:06 p.m. The following members were in attendance: Robert Choi, Renee DuBois, Harjeet Jandu, Tony Miceli, and Dalia Shlash.  Chao Wu, Columbia Council Representative, arrived at 7:09 p.m. Susan Smith, Village Manager, were in attendance. Mr. Zhang was absent.

Approval of the Agenda (Agenda 2):

Ms. DuBois made a motion to approve the agenda as presented. Mr. Miceli seconded the motion. The motion passed (6-0-0).

Resident Speak Out (Agenda 3):

The following residents spoke out about school redistricting, the need for space for the community to meet to discuss, and to request the Board of Directors’ assistance in sponsoring a forum and assisting with communications: Chen Hy (Linden Linthicum Lane), Xiao Qi (Floating Clouds Path), Sophia Lin (Every Sails Path), Xia Xu (Rippling Tides Terrace), Lingliu Xin (Gentle Call), Jaiver Lin (Victorious Song Lane), Xuewu Cai (Sunlit Water Way), Li Ren (Countless Stars Run), Steve Zhang (Bright Flow Mews), Shuang Zhai (Bright Flow Mews), Qinghua You (Ascending Moon Path), Guohin Wang (Tipperary Court), Ying Zha (Red Clover Lane), Yan Sunny Sun (Winter Grain Path), Cristina Otrocol (Leaves of Grass Court).

School Redistricting Forum – Consideration of Sponsoring (Agenda 4A):

Mr. Thomas made a motion for the Association to sponsor a school redistricting forum for River Hill residents to include a presentation by a Board of Education representative and to allow residents to speak. Ms. DuBois seconded the motion. Discussion. The motion passed (6-0-0).

It was the consensus of the Board that the forum will occur on September 8, 6:30 – 9 p.m., should include information on the process and the plan(s), and provide an opportunity for residents to speak. Ms. DuBois volunteered to organize and moderate the forum.

Adjournment (Agenda 9):

Ms. DuBois made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:30 p.m. Mr. Miceli seconded the motion. The motion passed (6-0-0).
