After COVID-19 necessitated a small car parade through the community in 2020, the River Hill Community Association (RHCA) is planning for the return of the always popular Independence Day Parade along Great Star Drive on Sunday, July 4.
While enjoying the opportunity to be together and celebrate the birth of our nation, our top priority is to ensure the health and safety of parade participants and spectators. Large gatherings, even when outdoors, are safest for those who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Therefore, based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control, the State of Maryland, and the Howard County Health Department, we have established parameters for parade entries and participants and modified our parade staging plan. Unvaccinated individuals ages 5+ should wear masks and maintain a safe, social distance of 6 feet from others not in the same household. We strongly encourage families to spread out along the parade route and we ask that everyone be respectful of others. Remember to please stay home if you are experiencing any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 or if you have been exposed to someone who has had signs or symptoms of COVID-19.
Rest assured, the parade will look much like years past. The Fifth District Volunteer Fire Department will lead the way and Cub Scouts will be our color guard. Veterans, businesses, local officials and hopefully our neighborhood summer swim teams, the Pheasant Ridge Rapids and Pointers Run Piranhas, will join the procession.
As always, this year’s parade will be held on July 4 beginning at 9 a.m. The parade participants will gather in the parking lots at Pointers Run Elementary and Clarksville Middle Schools, travel the length of Great Star Drive, and end at Signal Bell Lane at the Fifth District Fire Station. While we won’t have our traditional after parade festivities for parade participants and volunteers at the fire station, there will be no shortage of fun.
The Parade Registration Form is available below. Watch for announcements in The Villager in June, on RHCA’s website, and via our other communication tools. So, stay tuned!
