Calling all residents aged 55+! Meet up on the back patio at Claret Hall on Wednesday, May 18 at 11:30 a.m. for a “Lunch & Learn” with The Village in Howard (TVIH), a member-based, non-profit organization serving 55+ residents in Howard County. Their mission is to assist older adults to age-in-place in their own homes for as long as possible. TVIH was founded in 2015 and now has 180 members. Several of the members are residents of River Hill, and new members are always welcome. The group recently began meeting up in front of Claret Hall on Monday mornings for “Sneakers & Coffee,” a casual walking group that walks about 1.5 miles along pathways in River Hill.
A presentation by the membership committee of TVIH at the “Lunch & Learn” event will provide information about their mission, membership categories, personal services, Zoom and in-person programs, and volunteer opportunities. A 10-minute video will show the social, educational, cultural, and well-being activities organized by their members in the past 7 years. An explanation of how anyone can take advantage of activities that are open to the public will be provided.
TVIH is a member of the network (VtVnetwork.org) of senior villages. The senior village movement started in Boston 20 years ago. Today, there are 268 such villages with more than 40,000 members in the U.S., and an additional 70 are in development.
Bring a bag lunch & drink to the “Lunch & Learn.” No RSVP necessary. For questions and more information, call 410-531-1749 or email email@example.com.
