Additional Bicycle Amenities Planned for Village

On August 22, representatives from Howard County’s Office of Transportation (OOT) met with the association’s Traffic & Safety Committee and members of the community to discuss plans to add bicycle amenities in the village. BikeHoward, the county’s Bicycle Master Plan (2016), establishes a framework for a connected biking network in the county and calls for bike lanes and “sharrows” on Summer Sunrise Drive and River Run in River Hill’s Pointers Run neighborhood.

The county plans to resurface Summer Sunrise Drive and River Run in the near future. As part of this resurfacing project, the OOT is proposing that bike lanes and “sharrows” be included. At the meeting, the need for overflow parking during the out- door pool season was raised. The OOT is working on the details of this project, including preserving as much parking as possible on Summer Sunrise Drive to accommodate parking for the River Hill Pool. The OOT welcomes additional community input on the project and asks that comments be provided by September 14. Feedback may be given on the web at bikehoward.com/feedback, via email transportation@howardcountymd.gov, or by calling 410-313-4312. The association’s  Traffic & Safety Committee will continue to be involved and coordinate with OOT as the details of the project are developed. Updates will be shared with the community.
